Privacy Policy

SailorLove ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

1. What we collect

• Account information: email address and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth)
• Profile information: name, birth year, gender, sailing experience, bio, and photos
• Sailing preferences: region, intentions, lifestyle, and "interested in" settings
• Usage data: who you liked, passed on, or matched with
• Messages: conversations with other users
• Glimpses: photos, videos, captions, likes, and comments you post or write
• Location: your precise location, but only if you turn on Live Location, and only while the app is open and active
• Reports and blocks: safety actions you take

2. How we use your data

We use your data solely to operate SailorLove:

• Show your profile to compatible sailors
• Deliver matches, conversations, and discovery features
• Show your Glimpses, likes, and comments to other members, and notify you about activity on your posts
• Show your live position on the Radar map if you enable Live Location, and use it to set your sailing area automatically
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
• Investigate safety reports and enforce our community guidelines

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising.

3. Who sees your data

Your profile (name, photos, bio, sailing info) and any Glimpses you post (photos, videos, captions, comments) are visible to other logged-in SailorLove members. Your email address and birth year are never shown publicly.

Your location is only shown to other members if you turn on Live Location. By default — and whenever Live Location is off — you appear only as an approximate marker within your chosen sailing area, with no precise position revealed.

We use Supabase for database and authentication. Data may be stored on servers in the EU or US.

4. Live Location

Live Location is optional and off by default. If you turn it on (in Edit Profile or the Radar screen), SailorLove collects your precise location only while the app is open and active on your screen — we never track your location in the background or when the app is closed.

While enabled, your live position is shown to other members on the Radar map and used to automatically determine your sailing area. If you turn Live Location off, or if the app hasn't been able to update your position for a few minutes, you appear only as an approximate marker within your chosen sailing area — the same as members who never enable it.

5. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

• Access a copy of your data — use "Export my data" in the app Settings
• Correct inaccurate data — edit your profile at any time
• Delete your account and all data — use "Delete account" in Settings
• Object to processing — contact us at the address below

Requests are fulfilled within 30 days.

6. Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed — profile, photos, Glimpses, comments, messages, matches, and history. This cannot be undone.

7. Children

SailorLove is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we become aware of such an account, it will be removed immediately.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email. Continued use of SailorLove after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
